Thirsty Work! - When bicycling became a popular pastime, some thirsty rider decided that having a bottle of water on the trek would be a good idea – and “Shazamm!” the bike water bottle was born.
Single Handed - Drinking while riding became possible when the push-pull stopper (we call them poppets) were born. Bike waterbottle poppets are designed to be opened with your teeth (dentists love us!) so you can keep one hand on the handlebars at all times.
California Springs Bicycle Water Bottles have DuoFlow (tm) Caps which allows for a choice of water flow ... from a squirt to a gusher.
Squeezable - Since you need to squeeze the bottle to make the water come out of the poppet ... it needs to be squeezable (duh!). Quality Bike Bottles are made of LDPE (low density polyethylene) which is a high quality, EZ-to-squeeze material. Some “promotional” Bicycle Water Bottles are made of HDPE (high density) and the squeezing is not so easy ... but they are lower priced. It seems that you have to pay more to squeeze more.
Stick it Where? - The next problem was where to put the bottle when not in use. It needed to be accessible, yet out of the way. Most all new bikes come equipped with a water bottle cage mounted on the bike frame.
Standards - Bike cages have two standard features...
They have a inward curved section at the top (I call it a “hook”) that keeps the bottle in place even over rough terrain. The “hook” is at
a standardized height that fits over the shoulder of all bike bottles (see illustration).
Since all bike bottles are within mm’s of 3” in diameter ... bike cages are made to hold a 3” diameter bottle.
If a bottle does not fit into a Bike Bottle Cage ...
It’s not a “Bike Bottle.”

Note: Due to an exclusive licensing agreement, our promotional products distributors are prohibited from selling the Xtreme Series (see right) to bicycle dealers. The Xtreme bottles can be used for bicycle events, races, tours, etc. and for any other promotional use.
Although by definition they are bike bottles, we do not recommend the American Value Series for bicycle events. Most cyclists won’t use a bottle made of HDPE plastic. They prefer the easy-to-squeeze LDPE plastic found in all of our quality bottles.
